Oldham looked bright early on but conceded a bad goal after 18 minutes when Gavin Williams floated a corner into the box where Gavin Tomlin was unmarked to nod in a near-post header.

Terry Venables was a welcome visitor to Protecs north London academy to watch all of the potential players on show and after linking up with the academy in recent weeks he watched Protecs current u17 squad take on a selected group of emerging talent who hope to gain a place on our 2010/11 programme. Terry said I was greatly impressed by the all round standard of players on show and there are clearly players here with a real chance of making it into the professional game, the whole atmosphere was very professional and I was hugely impressed with the attitude of all the boys involved.

Terry Venables
Terry captained the team at every
club he played for and is uniquely placed as a judge of up and
coming football talent in this country. From this background Terry
has recognized the outstanding independent coaching that Protec has
been providing to up and coming players over the last 15 years and
recognizes also the importance of the educational opportunities
these players have been provided with at the same time.
Terry's involvement will
provide Protec with the benefit of his unique experience and ideas
and will lead to us providing an even better coaching experience for
all our players.

After a very good season playing in the Stevenage reserve side Protec's Pat Ulor and Jack Cornhill have been invited to join pre season training by manager
Graham Westly with a view to joining the club full time, good luck to both from all at Protec.
Steve Morison and Paul Robinson were the heroes as Millwall defeated Huddersfield to reach the League One play-off final for the second successive year.
Morison has been sensational for the Lions this season and tapped home his 23rd of the campaign in all competitions after Town keeper Alex Smithies parried a cross into his path midway through the opening half.
Steve Morison struck two goals taking his season's tally to 22 so far - but it was not enough to secure automatic promotion on an afternoon of high drama in League One. Millwall could have gone ahead with 88 seconds on the clock when Lewis Grabban was fed by Chris Hackett, sprinted into the area and hit a cross-shot that flew tantalisingly across the face of goal inches away from the boot of Morison. And instead of being a goal to the good, The Lions found themselves trailing just 60 seconds later.A routine-looking free-kick from the left by Jonathan Douglas, however, wasnot dealt with efficiently by the home defence and Ward buried a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
The celebrations of Swindon's 2,200 travelling supporters were instantly drowned out by a vociferous home crowd who did their best to spark an instant response from their team.Scott Barron's ninth-minute free-kick was headed narrowly wide by Paul Robinson before Millwall's prayers were answered when Shaun Batt was sent sprawling in the area by Douglas on 14 minutes. Up stepped Morison and calmly despatched the resulting spot-kick into the bottom left corner.The home side immediately pressed for a second and Darren Ward's header was tipped to safety before Liam Trotter nodded over from a Scott Barron cross. Despite the enormity of the occasion, both teams pushed forward in an open, entertaining game and could not be faulted for effort or commitment.However the frenetic pace of the first half looked to have taken its toll as both teams had an edginess about their play after the restart.But as news filtered through that Bristol Rovers had taken the lead at Leeds United, the atmosphere changed - and both teams stepped up a gear.
The Den was rocking again and half-chances came
and went at
both ends before Morison raced up the right wing and whipped in a
low cross that Gordon Greer diverted into his own net
from barely two yards. By now Leeds
had equalised against Rovers but, as things stood, The Lions were in
possession of second place. That changed
when 10-man Leeds went 2-1 up and suddenly the atmosphere fell flat.
Swindon should
have levelled on 68 minutes but top-scorer Billy Paynter blasted
over from close range.Just two minutes later Morison picked up the
ball on the right, strode forward and hit an unstoppable dipping
effort that left keeper Lucas grasping at
thin air.There was still time for Charlie Austin to miss a glorious
opportunity after Paynter flicked on Alan Sheehan's cross,
before Paynter deflected home Sheehan's free-kick with six minutes
remaining.Hackett could have re-established Millwall's
two-goal cushion, deep in injury-time but his heavy first
touch from a Marc Laird pass saw the ball trickle of play with the
last attack of the game.

Protecs Gavin Tomlin scores in 18 minutes to help Yeovil defeat Oldham 3 - 0. Gavin who spent 2 years at the Protec academy signed for Barnet and has had saccessful moves from Barnet to Brentford and now Yeovil Town.

Millwall have put themselves firmly into the automatic promotion race following an impressive 2-0 success over slumping Leeds United. The Lions set their stall out from the off and got an early breakthrough when Steve Morison's back-post shot eluded Andy Hughes and Casper Ankergren.Morison steered an early shot wide after breaking clear of Patrick Kisnorbo but made amends after 10 minutes when he steered in Liam Trotter's cross from the right at the far post.Leeds took their time to get going but improved as the first half wore on and Jonny Howson had their best chance of the first period when he beat Jimmy Abdou but dragged a right-foot shot from the edge of the box wide in the 44th minute.Morison fired into the side-netting after a swift counter-attack in the 66th minute, and with 10 minutes to go substitute Batt made the result safe.
Arif Becktas has signed a two and a half year professional contract with Turkish club Ordu Spor, Arif who spent two years at Protec also won student of the year in 2008, well done to Arif from all at Protec.

Ex-Barnet Protec student a big hit at Newcastle

Barnet FC are unlikely to be short of young talent in the future.
The Protec football academy, from which a number of the current Bees have graduated, continues to go from strength to strength.
The football/education-based scheme, which has been running 12 years, has produced a number of professional and non-league players.
Former graduates Joe Devera, Joe Tabiri, Luke Medley and Elliott Charles have all seen first-team action for the Bees this season, with Devera being named the club's player of the season last year.
Other ex-students are plying their trade elsewhere, and making an even bigger impact.
Among them is Nile Ranger, 17, who is now at Premier League Newcastle United and earning rave reviews.
Manager Joe Kinnear is following Nile's progress closely.
He said: "Nile is certainly one for the future and is making rapid progress. We could have a very good player on our hands."
Ranger left Barnet's Protec academy to join Southampton's academy in September 2007, before being signed up by the Magpies in August 2008.
He has just netted four goals in three matches for Newcastle's reserve and youth teams in the space of a week. Earlier in the season, he made the first-team squad, being on the bench for the Carling Cup tie against Coventry City.
Newcastle United coach Richard Money added: "He can progress to a good level - and maybe the highest level. Hopefully, that highest level will be with Newcastle."
Barnet Protec academy director Pete Edwards said: "Nile applied himself at Protec and we secured him a contract at Southampton. He now has a two-year contract at Newcastle United and we're delighted that the skills he learned with us are still standing him in good stead. He is a striker who will entertain the Toon fans, who enjoy watching great, attacking players."

Congratulations to Nile Ranger
NILE RANGER believes that signing for Newcastle United may have
saved his life.
Ranger is the last player off the training field as we speak in the
peaceful surroundings of United’s Benton Base, with Alan Thompson
twice having to appeal to him to call it a day after back-to-back
training sessions with both the reserve and first team.
It all seems a million miles away from where Ranger’s life was just
a year ago.
The Londoner was heading for serious trouble earlier in his short
life, and the former street gang member admits that St James’s Park
has provided him with not only a chance to become a professional
football star – but also a refuge from a life of crime.
Ranger’s progression through the ranks at United’s Academy has been
nothing but sensational, and full credit must go to Richard Money,
Alan Thompson and the rest of the staff at Newcastle’s Little Benton
base.
Yet it could all have been so different for Ranger after he was
sentenced to 11 weeks in a Young Offenders Institute after becoming
embroiled in gang warfare and ending up involved in a street robbery
in the Muswell Hill area of London.
Ranger, originally from Wood Green in the capital, now enjoys living
in more tranquil surroundings on the Tyneside coast and is hoping
that controversy is well and truly behind him.
Ranger already squandered one chance in professional football when
he was shown the door at another crisis club Southampton following a
series of misdemeanours on the south coast.
Now, though, United’s very own Magpie Ranger is determined to show
he’s reached new levels of maturity by aiding the Toon’s promotion
push back to the promised land of the Premier League.
Ranger told me: “Moving here was a breath of fresh air to me.
“Getting out of London was good for me. It wasn’t the best situation
for me at that time.
“I was itching to get up here and I loved it ever since I arrived.
“It was a new life for me coming to Newcastle.
“London is so busy. Newcastle is very different and I love living
here.
“I have some very good friends here in the likes of Kazenga LuaLua,
Frank Danquah and Ryan Donaldson.
“They are all good mates and we hang around at training on and off
the field.”
