Reading Development Centre Trials

How do I get a trial at Reading F.C.

We are looking for players who feel they have a high level of skill and playing ability, who may have been missed by the system or released from a professional club. To have a realistic chance of being selected for a trial at the Development centre players will need to be playing regularly to district, county or elite Sunday league standard. Please support your application with any playing experience along with the club and league that you play in. There is an information box provided at the bottom of the application page for this information.

Selection Process

If your application is successful you will be invited in to our Hertfordshire Development centre for a trial, The sessions take place on Friday evenings from 5.30- 8.15 pm. You will receive all information and your trial date by email, You will have 3 working days to reply by email from the contact us page. You must be fully committed as we receive a high volume of applicants. We do not accept trialists on the day. If you are under the age of 16 a parent or guardian must apply on your behalf.

What happens next

Successful applicants will join our age group training sessions 11-13 14-15 and 15-17 The sessions are 1 hour 15 minutes in duration, players that are identified immediately from the training sessions outstanding ability will be recommended directly to the Reading FC Centre of Excellence or Academy, depending on age. Others who show talent and are selected in the 11 to under 16 age group who also show talent but may need further development will be invited to take part in our 8 week Performance program.

Reading Performance Programme

Players selected from trials will attend our Reading performance programme training sessions these take place during school term time one evening per week. There are also ‘Development Days’ during half term, Easter and summer holiday periods. All players that attend are reviewed at the end of the eight week program and will receive feedback on strengths and areas for improvement. (Weekly session charges apply)

Advanced Player Programme

Players from the 8 week performance program will then have the chance to join The Advanced player program run exclusively by Protec for the season. see our advanced Development page for further information.

Individual assessments

Individual assessments are optional to all age group players selected you will need to arrive one hour prior to the session start time where you will be put through a series of skill related drills and practices and assessed in each area by one of our UEFA Qualified coaches. This is an optional addition at a cost of £45 this assessment gives you a grade in each skill that you perform. (simply Add this) Full Assessment required In the information box provided at the bottom of the application form.
