About Protec Football Academy
Protec Football Academy was established in 1995 by football professional Pete Edwards, who had previously worked at big names like Arsenal, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. Our aim is to enable boys to develop their talent with FA Qualified coaching, whilst gaining valuable academic qualifications at the same time.
We currently have boys studying for A level and BTEC National subjects at level 3 and have produced some outstanding students, some of whom have progressed to university degrees.
Others have been lucky enough to sign professional football contracts along with gaining a great set of qualifications.
Education first
Protec places education first, with good reason. We have been established for over 15 years and experience has shown us that football is a very hard area to break into and doesn't always work out at professional level for many players.
Some boys from our academy go on to build a successful career with their qualifications, at the same time playing football at non-league level. Warren Macbean at Chelmsford and Kesie Ibe at Ebbsfleet are two examples of players who gained a great education while at Protec and went on to combine full time jobs with their non-league football. Steve Morison began his working life in the same way but later his football career really took off as he moved from Stevenage Borough to Millwall on a three year contract.
